You Ever Dance with Death in a Room Full of Strangers? I had to last night. No choice.

Needed a short break and with below zero wind chills in THE MOTOR CITY I decided to fly the family down to Old Mexico. The resort was truly amazing. So after a very nice dinner filled with different songs from a Mariachi Band and Sexy Mexican Dancing the show ended with “A Dance of The Dead” by Death coming on stage to perform.

Death was a beautiful woman wearing a very intimidating costume. She had an over sized skull, roses on top and a black outfit with only Skeleton Bones (Think of Johnny in the Karate Kid from the 1980s movie).

After her performance she was not happy with the applause so she blew a small kazoo to request different sections of the crowd to provide more applause. This went on for some time until she was very unhappy and mocked the entire crowd.

She stomped around the stage searching the crowd and finally spotted me. Death smiled and shook her disappointing finger at me. Then she gave me an evil smile and waved me on stage. I sat terrified and simply scratched my beard as if to think it over. In reality I was just trying to buy some time.

How do I get out of this? Death mocked me some more and stroked her imaginary beard. The crowd laughed. We all know I was done for. No way out. No where to hide.

What could I do? I was in front of a room full of strangers but most importantly my two young daughters and wife!

So I went on stage. Terrified but I went on stage.

I had to dance. I’m not a great dancer. Not very good at all. And when I do dance it is usually after cocktails but I’m taking a break from that.

So it was my job to dance and sing a song on the kazoo. I had to do the same song and dance Death did before me. Another gentleman was also called on stage just before I performed and he too had to dance with Death. In the end Death walked him off the stage. I got the louder applause. I had Danced with Death and Won.

Please do not be afraid of anything except trying. I could have been a wimp and sat in my chair but I didn’t. I made an ass of myself and my kids loved it. My wife video taped it and we all had a great laugh.

Take chances. Work hard. Play Harder. You only live once. Why not make it great.
