Upon inspection of the Enshu ES 450 spindle, our technician found internal damage that was indicative of a spindle crash. Some indications included a damaged tool taper, wear on shaft, and damaged cages of the front angular contact bearings. In addition, the bearings were contaminated with oil and debris from outside of the spindle. The Spindle was quickly quoted by our staff within 24 hours, and our technicians went to work on this as soon as it was approved by the customer. The Shaft was sent out for Chrome and Grind Work, to requalify it back to the OEM specs. A new Gripper set was supplied by the Customer, which was used to replace the damaged one on the spindles drawbar. Ceramic Angular Contact Bearings and Steel Roller Bearings were ordered to replace the damaged and contaminated bearings. New O-rings and Seals were ordered to replace the worn ones, that caused the bearings to become contaminated. Following the reception of the replacement parts and requalified parts, one of our several Spindle Technicians(with and average of 20 years experience) assembled the ES 450 spindle. Once the Spindle was rebuild, one of our Spindle Technicians balanced the spindle with some of our state of the art equipment, to ensure the spindle ran like new. The spindle was then test ran for four (4) hours at maximum RPM, to make sure the vibration and temperature continued to be according to specification. Ultimately, this spindle was returned to the customer, running flawlessly and we received many other spindles from them because of our quality work and fast turn around.
