Matsuura H Plus 300 Spindle Repair Case Study

mazak

We received the Matsuura Vertical Machining Center Spindle from a customer. Once inspected and disassembled, it was found that the bearings had failed due to coolant ingression. It seems one of the seals had been damaged, which allowed the spindle coolant to enter the spindle and wash out the lubricant from the bearings. In addition, there was wear to the Big Plus 40 tool taper, as well as bearing spacers. The shaft and spacers were sent to chrome and grind, to return them back to the factory specifications. New O-rings, Seals, Precision Ceramic Angular Contact Bearings, and Precision Steel Roller Bearings were ordered. The customer asked us to upgrade the Matsuura Spindles bearings from oil mist to grease lubrication, because of which the bearings had to be modified to accept grease. Once all work was completed on the spindle components and new parts were received, one of our Experienced Spindle Technicians rebuilt the H Plus 300 Spindle. The Spindle was balanced and test run for over four(4) hours, to make sure the spindle would run smoothly and accurately for a long time to come. This spindle shipped out from our facility running great, with very little vibration being produced while running.
