We received a Mazak HCN 5000 spindle for repair. Our extensive experience rebuilding similar Japanese CNC Spindles proved to be of great value. Because this spindle had the drive keys sheared off, we recommended the unit be retrofitted for removable drive keys. Installing removable drive keys on a shaft with integral drive keys can be one of the most cost saving spindle upgrades one could get on a milling spindle. In the event of a future spindle crash, removable drive keys can be replace for a mere $50 as opposed to several thousand for the cost of reworking the structure of a spindles shaft. This will save the customer significant money on future repairs and eliminate down time.
