TROUBLESHOOTING SPINDLE ISSUES
There are plenty of issues that can occur with CNC spindles.
If you are experiencing any of the following, check out what has caused it and then contact the experts if the condition remains the same.
Actuation while running: If the piston of the actuator contacts the drawbar while still in rotation,
failure can occur. This is usually a result of operator or programming errors. This can also be
caused from contamination of the pneumatic actuator of the exhaust muffler. There will be witness marks
on the end faces of the drawbar nut or piston rod.
Tool sticking inside taper: This is normally caused by heat transfer due to an oversized tool. It can also result from improper ejection stroke of the drawbar because of broken springs in the drawbar or contamination of the component. Take a look at the drawbar to see if you notice anything immediately wrong. Tool slipping inside taper: This is normally caused when heat is transferred from long and heavy cuts. Because of these cuts, the tool taper can be expanded or contracted. Again, examine the overall drawbar. High axial load: When the CNC spindle experiences high axial load it can cause it to plunge into the material instead of ramping in. It can also crash into the overall worktable. Check the (second) front bearings.
High radial load: This can occur when the machine feed rate is too quick for whatever is being cut. It
can also occur when the cutting chips are dull. Check the (first) front bearings.
